It's the week of Black Friday (and Thanksgiving, I guess) and the holiday spirit's beginning to flow through everybody's veins! Progress continued as usual for builders, programmers, and electronicsers, or so I assume. (I honestly just kinda just stayed within the classroom busy with other stuff today, so I may not necessarily know everything that went on with the other groups.)
Those groups aside though, we, "the coolest cats", worked on polishing up the Robograms project, deciding on the button designs and how they will be sold in the next two weeks outside of the libraryyoushouldgobuyone. We have also begun planning how our video for the school's upcoming winter sports assembly will be, with filming scheduled to occur as soon as the next meeting. Got some suggestions for songs you think will excite the school crowd? E-mail them to me at my great e-mail address! Let's get ready for the work we'll do in December, Prontoians! YEAH, POKÉMO-- WORK. Warning: This post was not written by the Brian Dangs
The non-engineering team (the coolest cats) worked on the business plan and the upcoming fundraiser, Robograms.
No progress was made today due to the release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Please check back in the future for details.
Brian was supposed to write this, but he was like, "No" so I was like "Fine" and so now I'm writing this, two days late. Wish him well in his fighting a cold! During the lunch meeting, Daelin presented a new presentation detailing what people will be working on this week, which includes working on placing batteries on the robot, starting work on the arms, and creating bumpers, if I remember correctly off the top of my head as I sit here in the middle of class. Work progressed as usual during the after-school meeting for the regular teams while a few others worked on coming up with button ideas and designs for Jafar's Robograms project, which may or may not involve chucking buttons in people's faces with last year's robot in the middle of class. WHO KNOWS? This design from Brian seemed to get a lot of attention: Beautiful, ain't it?
Also, one last thing to mention: We are all friends in Robotics. All of us. Tomodachis. Amigos. BROS. Please get along with everyone and respect other people's opinions and ideas and appreciate a person's being there. We're all in this club together and we should all bond together as a whole team. Let's all enjoy Robotics and have fun. This is all just a terrible segue into me saying "Brobotics." FUN AHOY! Hey... this isn't Brian OR Brian 2.0... it's a mystery.
Today some members of Team Pronto went down the street to visit FRC team 4911 CyberKnights. In short, their set up is amazing. While everything they have is a dream for Team Pronto, the most amazing thing to me was ALL THE SPACE. Guys, we need our own space. Besides drooling over their stuff, we also got to ask a lot of questions about how they run their team and what makes them so successful. It was a great learning opportunity for us. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures. Instead, I'll just link to the CyberKnight's website. Yo, yo, yo, it's still the man of many names here to report on the anime - I mean all the great work Team Pronto accomplished today! Team Crimpinatorz and Team Brian Dang both were just short of finishing the chassis, but they will be well on their way to working on the arms this Wednesday. They hit a few setbacks and had to deconstruct, but this kind of situation mirrors the real build season which is full of surprises! Great job, build team! Meanwhile, the CAD team has been ultra-super-duper-fragiliciously productive, finishing their CAD models of the chassis of the robots and more! Of course, the electronics team has been continuing learning the basics of electronics with various lessons. Programmers were coding as usual, getting through the programming tutorial named Karel and advancing to coding practice called CodingBat, and eventually to robot-oriented programming! Yipee! And thus, our first week of Preseason is over. Where does the time go? And now: a picture of our honorary ultra-super-duper-fragiliciously helpful team member: [Insert motivational statement that encourages members to continuing coming next week. Remember, we'll keep having WICKED, MAD FUN.]
Yes, yesterday's update was admittedly a bit lackluster, but that shall change with this one! (Note: Not synonymous with "good" or "engaging".) Today's meeting started off with a fantastic little poem about our safety captain's lovely sideburns. Afterwards, everybody got to work doing what they do best: whatever they do best. In terms of progress, Team Brian Dang appears to have finished their chassis frame and are close to being able to attach motors while Team Crimpinators is still working on the frame last I checked. Even so, don't let that discourage any of you, 'cause progress is still progress! GANBATTE, CRIMPINATORS!
But wait, there's more! Our Business/Finance Captain, Jafar, was also able to win us a brand-spankin' new 3D printer! With this, we'll be able to reach even further heights of greatness! To the stars above! So major props to Jafar! (calp) Also, PICTURES! YEAH. MOTIVATION. Day 3 in the gho-- I mean, preseason build. Same thing, really. That aside, some pretty solid progress was made today, as the newer members were able to get some great hands-on experience in what they did and are beginning to get used to their work. Builders got to accustom themselves more with the various tools as they work on the chassis, programmers are learning all of the ins and outs of their field through lessons, and the people in electronics are pondering what happens if one of the batteries explodes. Kids grow up so fast these days... *Single tear*
Not necessarily the most dramatic day, but hey, that's just how it goes sometimes, as long as progress is made! Ha, bet you were wishing for Brian to be back, eh? NOPE. STILL ME. Anywho, today was a very basic day, at least from what I stuck around for and was told, as I needed to leave early. No, not because I wanted to watch anime (that's only part of the reason). The day started off with a mass retake of the safety test, which the majority of us unfortunately did not pass with 100% because we're rebellious teenagers who take risks but avoid putting our fingers in crimpers despite that because doing so would just be plain stupid. Other than that, builders built and the programming and electronics members learned what to do in their respective fields. In less major news that doesn't necessarily relate to today's meeting, I have taken the liberty to create custom thumbnails for each of our YouTube videos today, just 'cause why not. Now they look far more professional, pretty, and give me something to do when bored. These new thumbnails are visible on the embedded videos in previous news updates and just 'cause I can, have a look at the one I enjoyed editing the most: Insert motivational message here!
Oh jeez, how do I work this thing? Hello all. In case you haven't figured it out, this is in fact not Brian writing this, but his "partner in crime," the man of many names, 96% of which are wrong. But I digress. Today marked the start of our pre-season kick-off. Information about what we're doing and then some can be found in this presentation on Google Drive from Daelin: http://goo.gl/yoPRTi During lunch, we all split up into two teams: Team Crimpinators and Team Brian Dang. Stellar names, I know. The two teams will be responsible for building different things during the pre-season, with more details in that link up above, which I recommend you look at because half the time I just assumed we were working with paper clips and meatballs. We're not. After school, the club decided to get to know each other on a more intimate level via name games, which involved a lot of circles and running. An unfortunate accident happened during said name games, which led us to change gears towards our safety captain's safety demonstration and safety test. One group did that while the other worked in the autoshop, being taught by Brandon and Ian about the many different tools that we'll find ourselves working with (especially allen keys. Those things are your best friend and my only friend). The journey's just begun, so let's keep at it, people! ONWARD! Also, safety video in case anybody didn't see it or wishes to review: |
